Reflections on my first year at BPCC

Exactly one year ago today was my first day at BPCC—wow, it has gone fast!

Reflecting on the year that has been, I have learnt a lot, been challenged a lot, laughed a lot, grown a lot, and enjoyed it a lot! There are a couple of things, though, that have really stood out to me about BPCC as I reflect on the year.

We have an awesome community. From the first time that I visited BPCC, I’ve been struck by the strong sense of family and unity that we have in our church, and when I moved up I was immediately welcomed and accepted—which was a huge blessing, having moved away from all my family and friends! And throughout this past year the community has been a great encouragement and help to myself personally and to our Youth Ministry. There are so many people who have cheerfully helped me out over the year—from cars to cuppas, it has all reflected on the committed community we have at BPCC. I’m reminded of Hebrews 10:24-25, And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

We have an incredible, faithful God. There have been points through the year where I’ve really wondered what God was doing; there have been challenges and tough spots—but as I look back on them, I’m amazed by how God has used everything for his plans. As Romans 8:28 teaches, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” It is a great encouragement to be able to look at what God has done so far with all that has happened, the good and the bad, and be reminded to rely on Him to use our circumstances to grow and shape us in His image! I love all of Romans 8 (go read it!), which a few verses later says, “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”. So, let me encourage you as we wrap up this year and head into the next; we can do so relying not on our own strength but on our God, who no-one and nothing can stand against!

We have a great Youth team. It has been an honour to lead our Youth ministry this year. We have an incredible, dedicated group of leaders who I have loved serving alongside, as we together seek to make and grow disciples of Jesus among our young people. Plus, there have been lots of laughs as well! I’ve learnt a lot about ministry this year, and I am already planning out what 2018 will look like (spoiler: even better!).
