Our God Does Not Change

A few weeks ago, we had the annual GEMS and Cadets camp out at Samford. We had a great weekend with around 50 boys and girls enjoying the outdoors together. The Bible teaching over the weekend was focused on our awesome Creator God. We learnt about God’s awesome power, creativity and wisdom that He has displayed in creation for all to see (Rom. 1:20).

In fact, we were extremely blessed to have one of the Dads bring along a powerful telescope through which we could observe more of God’s spectacular creation as displayed in the heavens. It was amazing to gaze upon the stars and planets like Jupiter and Saturn. The magnitude of the night sky and the reality that God created it was truly humbling.

Whilst looking through the telescope, I was reminded of one of my favourite Bible verses, from James 1:17:Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.I was reminded of the reasons why this verse has special meaning to me.

Firstly, it reminds me that God knows what we need, and all good and perfect things come from him. Secondly, and this is a particularly timely truth for me, it reminds me that He does not change. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. In this crazy world that is filled with uncertainty, I take comfort from knowing I can trust in the Lord and I can trust in His word. In this world that can change in a heartbeat, God is my constant; He is the One I can turn to in times of joy, times of sorrow and times of uncertainty. Even when I can't understand what is happening I can trust that He will work all things together for good (Rom. 8:28). I can trust and know that God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self-discipline (2 Tim. 1:7).

This encourages me to know that I can make a difference in this broken world by sharing in His power and by showing His love to those I encounter. I challenge you to do the same. This week I challenge you to step outside your comfort zone and share the power and the love of Christ to those you do life with.Have a great week!

God bless,

Joanna
