We will always have seasons in our lives. Whether it’s weather related, or life related, we all go through seasons. Throughout these seasons, we can experience many different situations and emotions. Sometimes these seasons require us to draw into our faith more deeply than at other times.
It is easy when life is going well to be unshaken in our faith. But when times are tough and hard to navigate, that is when our faith can be shaky. We can say that we have faith in Christ. But the question remains, what do you do with this faith? We need to put our faith into action. Hebrews 11:1 says, “now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
In the Bible, Peter’s faith was tested when he was walking on the water to Jesus. Matthew 14:29-31 says, “Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?””
Here we can see that Peter let something as small as winds diminish his faith. But God says that all we need is faith as small as a mustard seed. In Matthew 17:20, Jesus said, “… Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
With even the smallest faith we can be effective in our lives. In every season this faith can be powerful. At times when we are doubtful, and times where we are confident. How are you feeling in your faith journey today?
