Two things affect me when I ask myself that question; challenges and responsibilities.
By challenges I mean those things that come out of the blue and we have to deal with them as best we can. They often take time, resources and energy that depletes our effectiveness for those things we want to do, or, be the person we want to be.
By responsibilities I mean those ‘things’ we know we are responsible for, and expected of us. And sometimes we don’t meet these responsibilities as well as we could or should. This takes more wind out of our sales.
Challenges and responsibilities. How can you and I avoid letting these two things steal our joy as we enter the crazy busy period leading into Christmas and the New Year? Here’s how I’m finding hope, energy and passion for this final stretch of 2016!
I’m being reminded of my uniqueness – we are all unique, created in the image of God, and He formed us in our mother’s womb (Ps.139:13). Here’s how Rick Warren speaks about this:
God made each of us so there would be no duplication in the world… no one else on earth will ever be able to play the role God planned for you… The world would be a very boring place if we were all plain vanilla… God intentionally allows you to go through painful experiences to equip you for ministry to others. The Bible says; God comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When others are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us (2Cor.1:4). The very experiences that you have resented or regretted most in life—the ones you’ve wanted to hide and forget—are the experiences God wants to use to help others. (Warren, Purpose Driven Life, day 31)
Warren’s insights encourage me because he reminds me God made me to be me! God’s intention is to continue to form us and use us as we face our challenges and responsibilities… with Him.
So, tighten your belt, look up to Him and have confidence that He will continue to work His purposes through us, for His glory.
Bring on November 2016!
