How are we doing as a church?

My week has included an information session with Creation Ministries International, a Worship & Prayer evening as part of our 21 Day Prayer & Fasting discipline, another infor-mation session this time with Arrow Leadership and Olive Tree Media where current re-search data was explained regarding the Australian populace’s opinion on spiritual matter. More correctly: Research into Key Belief Blockers and Questions about Faith, Christianity and God held by Australians today. (McCrindle Research conducted the survey/report). The survey reveals some very helpful insights into today’s Australian culture.

question asked: How open are you to changing your religious worldview? - extremely open = 3% - significantly open = 4% - somewhat open = 10% - slightly open = 31% - not at all open = 51%

question asked: Do you ever talk about spirituality or religion when you gather with friends - yes, often = 7% - yes, occasionally = 46% - no, never = 47%

question asked: Who or what has most influenced your perceptions & opinions of Christians & Christianity? - parents & family = 67% - mass media & social media = 25% - networks & relationships = 24% - other = 23% - books & articles = 20%

question asked: What ‘issues’ block (hinder) you to exploring Christianity - (from highest to lowest) homosexuality; hell; role of women; suffering; science & evolution; the Bible; supernatural elements

As I reflect on my week and the information I’ve heard this week, I’m reminded of how complex and multicultural Australian society is. And this is the society and culture BPCC is to relate to with the message of Jesus Christ! How different Australia is today from when my Mum and Dad emigrated here from Holland sixty years ago. So… let me ask: How are we doing as a church in reaching out into our community with the truth of God’s grace and love? How well are you being equipped to feel more confident in engaging your family and friends with the gospel? What would help you to be a more active and effective witness for Christ?

I’m really keen to hear your views – please feel free to interact with me via email, comment below, a phone call, or over a coffee.
